Biden sent officials from the Environmental Protection Agency ​to help alleviate the damage caused‌ by the spill.​ After initially stating the clean-up⁢ process would be finished by June, the‍ EPA said‍ recently ⁢they won’t be ⁢done until sometime next year.

Crucial context: Maui​ is located in a congressional district⁤ that voted for Biden by a margin‍ of 30 percentage points in the 2020 election. East Palestine⁤ resides in ​a congressional district that voted for Trump in 2020 by a margin of‍ nearly 50 percentage points.
