Rep. Boebert Introduces Bill to End Taxpayer Funded Abortions for Illegals

On Thursday, Colorado Rep. Lauren Boebert introduced a bill aiming to put an end to taxpayer-funded assistance for illegal migrants seeking to obtain abortions in the United States.

The “No Taxpayer Funds for Illegal Alien Abortions Act” comes just one month after the Biden administration directed federal officials caring for pregnant unaccompanied illegal migrants to transport them from states with restrictions on abortion to those where the practice is permitted.

If passed, the bill would “prohibit any employee or contractor of US Immigration and Customs Enforcement or the Department of Health and Human Services from transporting any alien across State lines for the purpose of procuring an abortion for such alien.”

The bill also stipulates that no funds authorized or appropriated via federal law would be permitted for use to pay for abortions or require anyone to perform or facilitate the practice.

While Boebert’s legislation includes a number of exceptions. Illegal migrants would be permitted to receive taxpayer-funded abortions in cases where carrying the fetus to term poses a risk to the mother’s life, as well as those where the pregnancy was the result of rape or incest.

In a statement to the Daily Caller, Boebert slammed the Biden administration for “unlawfully using taxpayer money to transport pregnant, illegal alien children across state lines for late-term abortions,” adding that via the new legislation, she and her colleagues hope to “end these illegal and horrific policies once and for all.”

“Our priority at the southern border should be security and peace, not death and destruction,” she added.

The Biden administration’s latest guidance, released in November, came in response to the Supreme Court’s overturning of Roe v. Wade, which eliminated the federal right to an abortion.

The guidance stated that staff at the Office of Refugee Resettlement “must not prevent [unaccompanied children] from accessing legal abortion-related services” and that they “must make all reasonable efforts to facilitate access to these services if requested by the [unaccompanied child].”
