This legislation contains five points that aim to create mutually beneficial partnerships between schools and parents. Letlow said the government can not take total control of the education system. She urged her fellow lawmakers to see the importance of educators and administrators working with parents to ensure student success.

“The idea that government can exclude parents and have total control of the classroom will never work because it ignores the simple truth that these are our children not the governments,” stated the Louisiana lawmaker. “The Parents’ Bill of Rights puts safeguards in place that ensure that the foundation of education is built on a meaningful dialogue between families and their child’s school.”

Rep. Letlow went on to add, the ideas in the bill are not partisan or polarizing, but are simple and common sense.
