Rep. Frost urges GOP to introduce bill removing Statue of Liberty, labels them as bigoted

Florida Democrat Calls for Removal of Statue of Liberty‌ in Response to Republican Border Security Bill

During a recent hearing, Rep. Maxwell Frost (D-FL) passionately urged ‌his⁣ Republican colleagues to reconsider their‌ support for the ⁢Secure the Border Act⁣ of 2023, also known as H.R.‌ 2. In a bold ‌statement, he suggested that if they were truly committed to a secure border, they might as well remove⁣ the Statue⁢ of Liberty.

“To ⁢my colleagues on the other side of the aisle, let’s be honest with ‌immigrants who deserve better than what you’re offering. Don’t welcome them if you plan to reject them,” the Florida Democrat said. “If⁤ you keep pushing your bigoted‌ H.R. 2 bill,‌ then also pass this bill.”

Rep. Frost, a freshman Democrat, even unveiled his own‌ bill with a powerful visual backdrop. Standing⁢ in front of a ⁤red‍ background, he presented his proposal while the image ‍of the Statue ‍of ‍Liberty loomed behind him.

“I’ve taken the liberty of drafting it for you,” Frost‌ declared. “It removes the ‌Statue of Liberty, our largest symbol that⁢ tells⁣ people to come here.”

As ⁢he⁤ spoke, a⁤ staffer dramatically removed the image⁣ of the Statue of‌ Liberty from its pedestal, leaving⁣ only an empty space behind.

“This is who you are, removing the fabric of America. So, I⁢ want to know which Republican,⁢ who supports and voted ⁢for H.R. 2, will introduce this bill,” he challenged. “If you’re gonna support H.R. 2 ‍and these bigoted measures, the least you can ‍do is⁢ not ⁣be a damn liar.”

During his passionate⁣ address, Rep. Frost also recited the ⁤famous poem “The⁤ New Colossus,” which has‍ long been associated with welcoming ‍immigrants to the United States.

Unsurprisingly, his remarks drew both‍ criticism and ⁤mockery from‍ conservatives on ⁣social media.

  • “God this is stupid,” journalist Guy Benson remarked.
  • “This⁣ is ridiculous,” responded Nile Gardiner of the Heritage Foundation.

Former Capitol Hill staffer ⁤Vish Burra criticized Frost for equating a poem ⁤on a⁢ statue with⁤ actual immigration ‍policy.

“There’s ⁢only one ‌party‍ in this country that wants to tear down statues, and it’s not Republicans,” journalist Mark Hemingway pointed out.

While ⁣Rep. Frost’s ⁢call for the ⁣removal‌ of the Statue of Liberty may have been provocative, it certainly ⁤sparked a‌ heated debate‌ about immigration and border security.

What is the significance of the Statue of Liberty ⁤in relation to the Republican ⁤border security bill?

‍N with a false sense of hope under the ‌guise of the Statue of Liberty, when in reality your actions speak of⁤ exclusion and division. If you want a⁢ wall to keep immigrants out, then why not just take down Lady Liberty herself?” Frost passionately exclaimed.

The statement made ⁣by Rep. Frost has received significant ‌attention and sparked a fierce debate among politicians,‍ citizens, and political commentators nationwide. While some‌ argue that ‌his remark was unnecessarily inflammatory and ‌disrespectful, others see it as⁣ a powerful and thought-provoking critique of the Republican border security bill.

The Statue of Liberty is not only a symbol of freedom and democracy, but it‌ also holds a significant historical and cultural value to the United States. Located‍ on Liberty Island in the New York Harbor, the statue was a gift from France to commemorate ⁢the⁣ alliance between‌ the two nations during the American Revolution. The statue⁢ has since become a⁣ welcoming sight to millions of immigrants who arrived on American shores seeking a ⁤better life.

By ‌suggesting the removal of the ‌Statue of‌ Liberty, Rep. Frost calls into⁢ question the true ‌motivation behind the Republican border security bill. Is it truly about securing the border ⁤and protecting‌ the nation, or ‍is there an underlying motive of exclusion and discrimination? Frost implies that if the bill is aimed at restricting immigration ⁢to the ⁣point of hostility, then the symbol‍ of liberty and acceptance must be removed.

The debate over immigration reform and border security has been ⁢a ⁢contentious issue in ⁣American politics for many years. Both Republicans and ‌Democrats have put forth various⁣ proposals, each with their own aims and objectives. However, the proposal put ⁢forth by Republicans in H.R. 2 has been particularly divisive.

H.R.‍ 2 seeks to ⁤increase funding for border security measures, including the construction of physical barriers along the southern border. Proponents argue that these measures are⁤ necessary⁢ to curb illegal⁢ immigration ‍and protect national security. Opponents, on the other hand, see the bill as a reflection of xenophobia and‌ an ⁣attack on the values that the⁤ United States stands for.

Rep. Frost’s call for the removal of the Statue ⁤of Liberty exposes the underlying tension and ‌differing ideologies within the debate.⁢ It challenges the Republican party to consider the consequences of ‍their actions and the ⁣message they⁢ are sending to ‌the ‌immigrant community.

The Statue of Liberty has long been seen as a symbol of hope, freedom, and opportunity for those seeking a better‌ life in America. Removing such a cherished symbol would not only be a powerful statement but would also have a ⁤profound ‍impact on the nation as a whole.

As the debate continues, it is essential for politicians on both sides of the aisle to engage in constructive⁣ dialogue and find common ground. The issue of border security and immigration reform is complex and requires‌ thoughtful consideration, respect for differing viewpoints, and a⁣ commitment to upholding the ideals upon which this great nation was founded.

The call to remove the Statue of ‌Liberty may ⁢be ‌seen as⁣ contentious and provocative, but‍ it serves as a reminder that the decisions made in Congress‌ have real-life consequences for the immigrants⁢ who come to this country seeking⁣ a better future. It challenges us⁤ to question whether our actions align with the values and principles that the United States aspires to uphold.
