At least 16 people killed after a fire erupted at a chemical factory in Pakistan largest city. According to rescue officials, the fire broke out at the factory in Karachi, Pakistan early on Friday.
16 workers were killed as the fire engulfed the warehouse. Reports said more than 20 workers were inside the building when a highly flammable chemical caught fire.
“This is a leather garment factory where chemicals and other substances caught fire,” local government official Saleem Ullah explained. “The upper floor of the factory became a death trap for the workers as there was no fire exit. Many people died due to suffocation.”
Local law enforcement officers are still investigating the cause of the blaze, which occurred in an area prone to fatal accidents due to poor working conditions and regulation of building codes.
