Documents recently revealed that American researchers concealed their intentions to conduct high-risk coronavirus research in Wuhan, China, from the Pentagon back in 2018.
Reportedly, the Wuhan Institute of Virology and U.S. scientists collaborated on the research proposal, which was named “Project DEFUSE,” sparking questions regarding the COVID-19 pandemic’s origins.
According to the report, the virus experiments were “proposed to occur in part in Wuhan with fewer safety precautions than required in the US — apparently to save on costs.”
“American scientists at the center of the ‘lab leak theory’ controversy appear to have concealed this from their desired funder — the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency — in order to evade any national security concerns about doing high-level biosecurity work in China,” according to the report by USRTK.
The documents stated that American scientists like Ralph S. Baric and Peter Daszak, among others, purposely lied about their plans to conduct high-risk coronavirus research in Wuhan with lax safety regulations.
To ease the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA)’s concerns, Daszak reportedly clarified that a large portion of the work would be conducted in Wuhan but left out crucial information from the formal proposal.
In an attempt to conceal the involvement of Chinese researchers and sidestep issues related to national security, Daszak attempted to minimize the proposal’s non-U.S. focus.
The DEFUSE proposal was never disclosed to the public until it was later leaked.
According to the documents that the watchdog group U.S. Right To Know obtained, the experiments were designed to demonstrate the “viability of applying high-risk techniques to more deadly viruses,” such as Nipah, Marburg, Ebola, and Hendra.

How did the intentional concealment of high-risk coronavirus research by American researchers impact national security concerns?
Title: American Researchers Conceal High-Risk Coronavirus Research in Wuhan, China
Introduction:
Recently released documents have revealed that American researchers collaborated with the Wuhan Institute of Virology in China to conduct high-risk coronavirus research. The researchers concealed their intentions from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency (DARPA) in order to avoid national security concerns and cut costs. This revelation raises questions about the origin of the COVID-19 pandemic and underscores the need for transparency in scientific endeavors.
Background:
In 2018, the research proposal named “Project DEFUSE” was initiated, involving collaboration between the Wuhan Institute of Virology and United States scientists. The proposal aimed to conduct virus experiments with fewer safety precautions than required in the US, potentially to save on costs.
Concealment of Information:
American scientists involved in the proposal, such as Ralph S. Baric and Peter Daszak, deliberately lied about their plans to conduct high-risk coronavirus research with lax safety regulations in Wuhan. To allay concerns from DARPA, Daszak downplayed the non-U.S. focus of the proposal, seeking to minimize the involvement of Chinese researchers and avoid national security issues.
Implications and Controversy:
The concealment of the DEFUSE proposal raises significant concerns. American scientists seemingly concealed their intentions to evade national security concerns about conducting high-level biosecurity work in China. The revelation has reignited debates surrounding the theory of a possible lab leak as the origin of the COVID-19 pandemic.
Scope of the Research:
According to the obtained documents from the watchdog group U.S. Right To Know, the experiments were designed to test the viability of applying high-risk techniques to deadly viruses such as Nipah, Marburg, Ebola, and Hendra. It is crucial to examine whether this type of research could have contributed to the emergence of the novel coronavirus.
Transparency and Accountability in Scientific Research:
The deliberate concealment of research intentions not only undermines public trust but also highlights the need for transparency and accountability in scientific endeavors. Clear communication, ethical practices, and adherence to safety protocols are essential to prevent mishaps and ensure public confidence in scientific research.
Conclusion:
The revelation that American researchers concealed their intentions to conduct high-risk coronavirus research in Wuhan, China raises concerns about the origin of the COVID-19 pandemic. The intentional non-disclosure of the DEFUSE proposal contributes to the mistrust surrounding the lab leak theory. Moving forward, transparency and accountability must be prioritized to ensure scientific integrity and maintain public confidence in the pursuit of knowledge.
