Reporter Who Doxed, Harassed Paramedic Over $10 Donation To Kyle Rittenhouse Responds To Backlash: ‘Thank You All For Your Opinions’
A reporter who ambushed a paramedic for donating $10 to the defense fund of teenager Kyle Rittenhouse responded on Twitter to the backlash received over the segment.
Jason Nguyen, a reporter with ABC4 News in Utah, didn’t apologize for the segment, which was widely criticized for using hacked documents to harass a private citizen for their private, small-dollar donation. Instead, Nguyen simply thanked people for their opinions.
“Thank you all for your opinions. We hear you and appreciate each and everyone [sic] of you for reaching out,” Nguyen wrote on Twitter.
As Daily Wire investigative reporter Luke Rosiak reported, The Guardian published the names of low-level police officers and paramedics who made small donations to their colleagues who were targeted by Black Lives Matter. The outlet used information hacked from the charity website GiveSendGo to dox the donors.
ABC4 News found the name of a local paramedic who had donated $10 to Rittenhouse’s defense last year, and went to his house to ask him about “his side of things.” The Daily Wire’s Amanda Prestigiacomo reported that a “report from the news station boasted of ABC4 News investigative reporter Jason Nguyen going to the man’s home, noting ‘those inside the home didn’t want to talk.’” A video of the encounter also aired on the news station.
In addition to the ambush, West Valley City officials told ABC4 News that they would investigate the paramedic’s donation because he used his government email account to make it.
“We have become aware of a donation made using his government email account,” the officials said in a statement to the news outlet. “We are conducting an investigation into this matter, however, such a donation would be representative of personal actions and not those of West Valley City.”
Nguyen highlighted the development on Twitter as well.
Rittenhouse, 18, was charged with two felony counts of homicide and one felony count of attempted homicide after he allegedly killed two men and injured a third during a riot in Kenosha, Wisconsin last year. As The Daily Wire previously reported, Rittenhouse’s attorneys are arguing he shot the men in self-defense, compiling video footage of the night. From The Daily Wire’s description of the video:
The video shows Rittenhouse tending to hurt protesters during the night of the riot, before tensions escalate and the teen finds himself pursued by a mob and pinned between cars as gun shots ring out nearby.
“Every decade or so, a legal matter arises that holds the power to negatively affect our lives for generations to come,” the narrator prefaces the video. “Regardless of what side of the political spectrum you identify with, this is about you.”
“To prevent the total destruction of their communities, good Samaritans united to guard local businesses,” the video continues, showing destruction from rioters.
“So people are getting injured,” Rittenhouse himself says before the incident, the video captures. “Our job is to protect this business. Part of my job is to help people. If there’s somebody hurt, I’m running into harm’s way.”
“I have a medic kit,” the teen yells to the protesters. “If you are injured, come to me!”
The video, titled, “Kyle Rittenhouse – The Truth in 11 Minutes,” highlights that not one of Rittenhouse’s attackers were given a single charge.
“A 17-year-old American citizen is being sacrificed by politicians,” the narrator says. “But it’s not Kyle Rittenhouse they’re after; their end game is to strip away the Constitutional right of all citizens to defend our communities, our personal property, our lives, and the lives of our loved ones.”
It does not appear that ABC4 News has officially addressed the controversy surrounding its reporting at this time.
