Gooden and Jordan demand answers on federal funding for illegal immigration.
Congressmen Call Attention to Potential Misuse of Federal Funds for Illegal Immigration
Republican Congressmen Jim Jordan (R-OH) and Lance Gooden (R-TX) have issued a joint letter to the National Board of FEMA’s Emergency Food and Shelter program, raising concerns about the potential use of federal funds to enable illegal immigration into the United States.
“Since President Biden took office, U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials have encountered over five million illegal aliens. This is a direct consequence of the Biden Administration’s policies,” a press release from Gooden states.
The letter specifically points to the role of federally-funded NGOs in the immigration process, highlighting the fact that non-governmental organizations like United Way receive federal grants and “reportedly use DHS grant funding through the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) to provide aid to illegal aliens.”
NGOs Receiving Millions of Taxpayer Dollars to Provide Aid to Illegal Aliens
The letter also points out that United Way and other NGOs are “receiving millions of taxpayer dollars to provide free food, lodging, and transportation for illegal aliens across the U.S.”
Gooden asserts that the drastic surge in illegal immigration is “fueled in part by NGOs like those on the EFSP National Board” before urging NGOs involved in immigration to “prioritize transparency and fiscal responsibility.”
“We will remain vigilant in our oversight of federal grants, to safeguard against any misuse of funds that could further exacerbate the current border crisis,” Gooden also stated.
NGOs Play a Disturbing Role in the Inflow and Spread of Illegal Immigrants
In an earlier letter from Rep. Gooden, he stated, “Taxpayer-funded non-governmental organizations (NGO) play a disturbing role in the inflow and spread of illegal immigrants throughout the country.”
He also charged that many nonprofits act as “resettlement agencies to secretly transport and lodge undocumented migrants” by “bussing and flying illegal aliens to a destination of their choice and housing them in hotels.”
Costs of Illegal Immigration to U.S. Taxpayers
Recent reports have found that the Department of Health and Human Services spent approximately $13 billion sponsoring unaccompanied minors left at the southern border with Mexico since 2012.
Various NGOs tasked with caring for unaccompanied minors, including Southwest Key Programs and Baptist Child and Family Services, have received grants from the federal government. Despite the large sum spent on safeguarding children, reports indicate that as many as 85,000 unaccompanied minors have gone missing.
Other reports have found that illegal immigration costs United States taxpayers approximately $151 billion every year.
