Reps. Reveal What Caused Star Musician To Collapse Onstage
Representatives for music legend Carlos Santana revealed Wednesday that the performer was suffering from heat exhaustion and dehydration, which caused him to collapse onstage during his show in Clarkston, Michigan.
The guitar legend was in the middle of his performance when he collapsed, worrying fans and officials alike.

He was taken from the stage some 20 minutes later via stretcher, waving to fans as they applauded. Fans were later asked to leave the venue, and Santana was transported to a local hospital for treatment of what they called a “serious medical issue.”
Reps for the musician told People that he had been “over-taken by heat exhaustion and dehydration” during the performance. “The guitar great was taken from his show at Pine Knob Music Theatre (formerly DTE Energy Music Theatre), an outdoor amphitheater in Clarkston, some 40 miles northwest of Detroit, Michigan.”
“Carlos was taken to the emergency department at McLaren Clarkston for observation and is doing well,” the statement continued.
The Michigan performance was part of the rock legend’s full-summer “Miraculous Supernatural 2022” tour — alongside Earth, Wind, & Fire — which began in June and was supposed to run through August.
Santana was scheduled to perform his next show at The Pavilion at Star Lake in Burgettstown, Pennsylvania, but reps have also confirmed that show has been postponed until a later date.
Santana had another health scare just over six months ago, when an unscheduled heart procedure forced him to cancel a number of shows he was scheduled to do in Las Vegas.
“Last Saturday, I had an incident where I asked my wife, Cindy, to take me to the hospital because I had this thing happening in my chest,” he explained at the time. “So when we went there, we found out that I needed to take care of it. So I am,” Santana said. “I’m going to be taking time off for a little bit to make sure I replenish, and I rest and I catch up with my health so that when I play for you, I will play the way I’m used to and give you 150 percent.”
“Carlos is doing fantastic and is anxious to be back on stage soon,” Michael Vrionis, president of Universal Tone Management, told the outlet following the guitarist’s heart procedure.” He profoundly regrets that this ‘speed bump’ necessitated the cancellation of his upcoming performances.”
