Gaetz predicts Trump’s victory, declares race practically finished in Republican debate.
MILWAUKEE — Former President Donald Trump’s Absence Dominates Debate
Wednesday night’s debate took an unexpected turn as former President Donald Trump, who did not attend the event, became the center of attention. His supporters in the spin room wasted no time in declaring him the winner, leaving the press intrigued.
UP FOR DEBATE: WHERE TRUMP, DESANTIS, AND REST OF REPUBLICAN 2024 FIELD STAND ON KEY ISSUES
As Sean Hannity interviewed Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) in the background, Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) confidently proclaimed that the race was practically over. Gaetz pointed out that no Republican had held such a significant lead in Iowa since George W. Bush in 2000, and he believed the numbers would only improve for the Trump campaign beyond Iowa.
Surprisingly, Trump’s presence during the debate was minimal, with little mention of him until the moderators directly asked about him in the second hour. Candidate reactions varied, with some praising Trump, like Vivek Ramaswamy, while others, such as Chris Christie and Mike Pence, condemned him.
However, Gaetz had no mixed feelings about Trump. He couldn’t help but comment on Pence, comparing him to a relic from the 1980s Republican era. Gaetz’s bold statement didn’t go unnoticed.

Gaetz also predicted that Ramaswamy would surpass DeSantis and secure second place in the polls after the debate. However, he believed that the top of the race would remain unchanged. Gaetz criticized DeSantis for failing to make a breakthrough during the debate, suggesting that Ramaswamy’s unique approach would propel him forward.
