Republican debate: Top zingers from Wednesday debate in Miami
Highlights from the Miami Republican Presidential Debate
With a smaller stage and more focused subject matter, Wednesday night’s debate in Miami brought intense attacks and memorable zingers as candidates fought for second-place footing.
Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) on former President Donald Trump:
“[Trump] said Republicans were going to get tired of winning. Well, we saw last night. I’m sick of Republicans losing.”
DeSantis wasted no time in addressing the elephant in the room - former President Donald Trump – and connected him to the Republican losses in Tuesday’s elections.
Unlike the previous debates, this one had a noticeable lack of mentions of Trump from the candidates, especially from former New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, despite Trump’s continued dominance in the polls.
Entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy on election losses:
“We’ve become a party of losers.”
Ramaswamy launched into an attack on various players in the room, criticizing the Republican National Committee’s performance and RNC Chairwoman Ronna McDaniel. He even offered her the opportunity to come onstage and resign.
He also took a swipe at the NBC News moderators, suggesting alternative choices like Tucker Carlson, Joe Rogan, and Elon Musk.
Ramaswamy on former U.N. Ambassador Nikki Haley:
“Do you want Dick Cheney in three-inch heels?”
The personal feud between Ramaswamy and Haley continued, with Ramaswamy labeling her as a warmonger and a member of the old Republican establishment. He compared her to Dick Cheney, a well-known Republican neoconservative.
In a playful jab, Ramaswamy hinted at rumors that DeSantis wears height boosters, saying there were two people onstage in heels.
Haley on her high heels:
“They’re not for a fashion statement. They’re for ammunition.”
Haley responded to Ramaswamy’s comment about her heels by emphasizing their functionality and portraying herself as a fighter.
Haley’s response to Ramaswamy’s mention of her daughter:
“Leave my daughter out of your voice. … You’re just scum.”
After Ramaswamy accused Haley of hypocrisy regarding her daughter’s use of TikTok, Haley fiercely defended her family and launched a direct attack on Ramaswamy.
Haley’s daughter later joined her onstage, and both Haley and Ramaswamy noticeably avoided shaking hands.
Gov. Ron DeSantis on his message to Israel:
“I will be telling Bibi — finish the job once and for all with these butchers, Hamas.”
DeSantis addressed the ongoing War in Gaza and expressed his support for Israel, urging Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to take decisive action against Hamas.
He also criticized President Joe Biden’s handling of the situation and highlighted his efforts to bring back U.S. citizens from Israel.
