Trump accuses DeSantis’s campaign of being ‘crazy’ in Republican debate.
Former President Donald Trump Claims Gov. Ron DeSantis’s Campaign is Finished
During an interview with Tucker Carlson on Wednesday night, former President Donald Trump made a bold statement about his top presidential primary opponent, Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL). Trump confidently declared that DeSantis’s campaign is finished, using derogatory language to express his opinion. However, Trump acknowledged that if someone else were to enter the race, they would face the same vicious attacks he experienced.
Stealing the Spotlight
The timing of the interview was strategic, as it coincided with the Republican National Committee’s first primary debate airing on Fox News. This move was intended to divert attention away from Trump’s 2024 rivals and ensure that all eyes were on him.
Trump’s Dominance and DeSantis’s Struggles
Trump currently holds a significant lead in both national and state polls, consistently polling ahead of his competitors by double digits. On the other hand, DeSantis has encountered various campaign issues, including financial concerns, staffing problems, and messaging challenges. As a result, DeSantis’s poll numbers have declined while Trump’s continue to rise.
Trump’s Controversial Remarks
During the interview, Trump also claimed that Fox News favored DeSantis over him but dismissed the governor’s campaign as a “lost cause.” Additionally, Trump vehemently criticized the indictments brought against him, labeling them as fraudulent and expressing his disdain for Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis. Trump is set to turn himself in to a Fulton County jail on Thursday, where he will have his mugshot and fingerprints taken.
Despite these controversies, Trump remains the frontrunner for the GOP’s presidential nominee in the upcoming election.
