Republican Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene Praises Debt Ceiling Bill

“Republicans have huge wins in this fight,”

On Wednesday, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) took to Twitter to praise President Joe Biden and House Speaker Kevin McCarthy’s (R-CA) debt ceiling bill. Ahead of a crucial vote on the bill in the House of Representatives, Greene listed nine key wins for the Republican Party in a Twitter thread.

Wins for the Republican Party

  • Eliminates large portions of 2023 funding for the IRS
  • Allows the GOP to punish “Anthony Fauci, former FBI director James Comey, and former CIA Director John Brennan” by defunding “their” retirement
  • Cuts funding from the Green New Deal
  • Defunds self-proclaimed “sanctuary cities”

Greene also stated that she will not let Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell, and Senator Lindsey Graham (R-SC) pump out a clean debt ceiling increase that gets the support of every Democrat and a few RINOs.

The 99-page bill includes provisions on defense and seeks to curb government spending. The vote comes after monthslong negotiations between the White House and Congress. The Senate is expected to pass the legislation later this week ahead of a June 5 deadline. The United States reached its debt ceiling in January, but Congress was given a June deadline until the federal government would be unable to pay its bills.

Greene’s tweet has sparked a lot of discussion on social media, with many people sharing their opinions on the bill and the Republican Party’s stance on it.
