Republicans Introduce Bills Defending Female Athletes and Parental Rights
Two federal bills that protect student-athletes’ rights and the rights of parents of schoolchildren are the subject of heated debate.
As a Congressional Committee worked into the wee hours of March 8, examining the proposed legislation, a deep partisan divide emerged. Both of these are part the “Commitment to America” It is the policy promise of the GOP announced last fall.
Republicans wish that they weren’t required to protect such fundamental rights. But societal trends, and President Joe Biden’s Democratic administration’s policies are what they want. “radical” Leftist ideology has forced them to do something.
Parents should be able to see the curriculum their child is learning in school. They want to stop biological men from playing in women’s or girl’s sports.
Democrats attacked the legislation as excessive government. H.R. 77, the Protection of Women and Girls in Sports Act was criticized by them with strong language 734.
It would violate federal law to fund public schools that are funded by the bill. “allow individuals of the male sex to participate in programs or activities that are designated for women or girls,” This is a summary.
“Under the bill, sex is based on an individual’s reproductive biology and genetics at birth.”
Bill Called ‘Stigmatizing’
Rep. Pramila Jayapal (D-Wash.), proposed changing the bill’s title to “The Stigmatizing Vulnerable Children Act.”
However, the Republican-dominated U.S. House Committee on Education and the Workforce rejected her proposal.
Jayapal, along with other Democrats, stated that only a handful of transgender athletes are competing in the female category and therefore there is no need for legislation to address them.
Jayapal is a woman Jayapal refers to herself as “a proud parent of a trans kid,” These children should not be excluded from sports because it is considered discriminatory.
Rep. Suzanne Bonamici (D-Ore.), accused Republicans “villainizing” transgender athletes. Her colleagues were asked by her to “reject this fear-mongering, harmful bill.”
Rep. Jamaal Bowman (D-N.Y.) asked: “Why can’t we leave trans people alone? They’re not bothering anyone.”
According to him, the United States is an “ugly history of discrimination” Against people who are not like you.
“Who in the heck are we, as Americans, and as a human race, to be so darn uncomfortable with an individual or group of people that is different from who we are?”
“I just want my Republican colleagues to just take a breath. Stop. Relax. The trans community is not bothering you.”
‘Men Are Not Women’
However, the Chair of the Committee, Rep. Virginia Foxx (R.N.C.), stated that the bill was necessary because the administration of Biden has “perverted” Title IX the Education Amendments of 1972.
It prohibits discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation in federally funded educational programs.
Foxx had been a teacher at Appalachian State University in the time that Title IX went into effect. She saw positive results for girls’ sports when Title IX came into force. Title IX encouraged more girls to participate in sport at that time.
Foxx recently saw Title IX take root. “a tool used by the education bureaucracy to enforce inequality and unfairness,” The opposite of their intention.
This is due to the Biden administration changing Title IX’s meaning, says she.
Biden’s will be inaugurated in mid-2022 U.S. Department of Education proposed The definition of “term” should be expanded “sex” To include gender identity and sexual orientation.
The action took place 11 years ago, when Democratic President Barack Obama had made an identical attempt.
Foxx charged the Biden Administration with enacting “a radical regulatory scheme.”
“The following should never be a radical statement: Men are not women. Women are not men. They certainly shouldn’t compete against each other in any publicly funded arena,” Foxx stated.
“It is a sad reflection on society that the federal government must step in to protect our nation’s young women.”
Former player of the NFL protects girls
Rep. Burgess Owens (R. Utah), who was a former professional atheist with the NFL’s New York Jets said that he had seen the “profound impact” he played sports for himself as well as his five daughters.
Sport “helped shape their character,” He stated. “I’m sad to think that the same opportunities might not be available in the future. I want to continue seeing young girls and women benefit from the protections of Title Nine.”
He spoke. “common sense” According to biological reality, “allowing biological men to compete in women’s sports not only eclipses women but eventually erases them from the winner’s circle altogether.”
According to scientific studies, men have more muscle mass, lung capacity and skeletal structure than women.
“This, my friends, is called science,” He stated. These ramifications have far-reaching consequences. “a game,” Because many girls are dependent on athletic scholarships, he explained.
“We should not allow biological men to steal from women and girls their spot on a sports team. We need more people with old-school courage to stand up and say as much,” Owens said.
“You can’t let young girls continue to suffer just to stay on the safe side of political correctness.”
Young female athletes have voiced their opposition to biological men who self-identify themselves as male athletes. “females,” To compete with girls and women
“It’s shameful that adults in charge have bullied them,” He stated. “These girls were told to be quiet or be ‘canceled.'”
“This kind of intimidation and bullying by the left is wrong. Bullying is something I learned to detest, growing up in the Deep South. I detest it even more today,” Owens said.
“These girls deserve to be heard. They deserve to be able to work, to sacrifice, to enter the arena of fair meritocracy, to pursue their dreams, and to win.”
‘Non-Negotiable’ Rights
Owens spoke also in support of H.R. 5.
“Parental rights are non-negotiable,” Owens said.
Parent have an obligation to “God-given right to make decisions” He spoke on behalf of his children to instill values in them and guide their school education.
According to the proposed proposal, parents will have the ability to examine school curricula and budgets as well as lists of books and other reading material in school libraries.
You would also be entitled to “address the school board.”
When schools closed down due to the outbreak of coronavirus, children took lessons online. Parents got an opportunity to observe the lessons from their children firsthand.
Parents were frequently silenced when they tried to express outrage or opposition.
Democrats claimed that the requirements of this bill would make schools more difficult and take away local control.
A provision would have allowed parents to inspect certain documents their children had filled out.
They could expose a child’s transgender identity to parents. Parents who don’t approve of it may be able to bully their children, Democrats suggested.
The Republican counterparts also stated that this bill was a departure from the Republican mantra of less government interference in people’s lives.
Rep. Julia Letlow (R-La.). Julia Letlow (R-La.) stated that she was happy to see H.R. 5, moving forward, she introduced it a year ago.
According to her, the bill isn’t complicated. “Nor is its intention to be partisan or polarizing,” Letlow stated.
“This bill is about one simple and fundamental principle: Parents should always have a seat at the table when it comes to their child’s education.”
Louisiana passed a similar bill in 2014. “with broad bipartisan support,” Letlow stated, “and we see it work every single day.”
Democrat Opposition
Democrats and their political allies view the bill as “an attack on our hard-working teachers, that it will lead to Congress dictating curriculum to local schools or telling librarians what they can and cannot have on their shelf,” Sie said.
“But in that argument, it’s very clear that their underlying message is that they don’t want schools to have to be accountable to parents. Rather than opening the doors to welcome parents as partners, they would rather slam them shut and have government bureaucrats make all the decisions.”
Letlow is a mother who was also an educator. She believes parental involvement is crucial to the success of students.
“Mountains of data” Please show “massive learning loss that our students suffered during the pandemic,” Letlow stated. It’s important for teachers and parents to assist children in catching up.
Bowman has a doctorate on educational leadership and he called H.R. 5 “repetitive, redundant and unnecessary.”
He explained that local school boards are responsible for governing schools districts, and they have the advice of the Parent-Teachers Association.
‘Turning Point’ Possible
Democrats also protested against an amendment that required schools to notify parents of nearby districts and charter schools who might be able to accept their child. Rep. Kevin Kiley (R.Calif.), sponsored the amendment. His proposal would have a positive impact on children’s education. “promote a sense of competition.”
Bobby Scott, ranking member (D-Va.), said he was worried about parents moving their children. “bad” Schools, which has led to further declines in standards and funding for these districts.
Owens claimed that he’s heard this argument for over 40 years. “Let’s not let people leave public schools because it will hurt public schools.”
However, the results have been devastating. According to him, 75 percent of California’s black males failed standard writing and reading test in 2017.
“Black young men who cannot read, cannot write, cannot think, cannot dream. But they will stay in that failing school,” Owens stated, in order to please powerful interests like teachers’ unions.
Despite opposition from Democrats, the amendment was passed by Republicans.
“Thank goodness the Republican Party now is in control, to have this conversation and let people decide for themselves,” Owens said.
He would like to witness the excitement build over the Parents Bill of Rights. “this could be a turning point.”
