On his way, Tibon encountered the lifeless bodies of terrorists in the kibbutz, a grim reminder of the danger that awaited him.
“What gave you hope that your son and his family would still be alive?” asked NBC anchor Lester Holt.
Tibon’s response was resolute: “I had instructed my son, ‘you have to be quiet, you have to be locked, trust me, I will come.’
“And he knew that I will come,” the Israeli veteran continued. “This is my profession. Nobody, nobody, nobody can stop me.”

Amidst the chaos, the family had taken refuge in their safe room when the attacks began early in the morning. They anxiously waited, locked inside with their young daughters, Galia and Carmel.
“I understood exactly what was happening: that Hamas has infiltrated our kibbutz, that there are terrorists outside my window, and that I’m locked in my house and inside my safe room with two young girls, and I don’t know if anyone is going to come to save us,” Amir Tibon shared with The Atlantic.
In their darkest moments, Amir called his 62-year-old father, who assured him that he was on his way.
For 10 agonizing hours, the family remained in the pitch-black safe room, their only solace being the repeated words of reassurance from Tibon: “Grandfather is coming.”
Using his pistol, the elder Tibon aided a group of soldiers in neutralizing Hamas fighters on his way to rescue his son. He then joined forces with another retired general, and together they navigated the community in an ordinary car, determined to reach their destination.
Throughout his military career, Noam Tibon specialized in counter-terrorism and homeland security. He received training not only in Israel but also graduated from the U.S. Marine Corps University, Command and Staff College.
Since the start of the Hamas attacks, over 1,000 lives have been lost in Israel, according to the IDF’s Army Radio.
