RFK Jr and Manchin pose double risks to Biden in 2024.
Robert F. Kennedy Jr. Poses a Bigger Threat to President Biden as a Third-Party Candidate
According to a new Quinnipiac University national poll, Robert F. Kennedy Jr. may pose a bigger threat to President Joe Biden as a third-party candidate than as a Democratic primary competitor. The poll reveals that Kennedy’s net approval is significantly higher among independent voters compared to Democrats, who generally hold a negative view of him.
Democratic Voters’ Opinion of Kennedy
In the poll, only 21% of Democratic voters reported having a favorable opinion of Kennedy, while nearly half expressed unfavorable opinions. This results in a net favorability rating of -26 among Democrats.
Independent Voters’ Opinion of Kennedy
On the other hand, among independent voters, 39% had a favorable opinion of Kennedy, while 27% had an unfavorable opinion. This gives him a net favorability rating of 12 within this group, highlighting a significant contrast with Democrats.
In a hypothetical Democratic primary matchup, President Biden emerged as the clear winner, receiving 71% of the support. Kennedy, along with Marianne Williamson, only garnered 14% of the votes.
Possible Third-Party Challenge
President Biden already faces the potential challenge of a third-party candidate from the national movement No Labels. Speculation suggests that the group may launch a presidential bid led by Senator Joe Manchin (D-WV), who has not ruled out the possibility.
Senator Manchin’s recent participation in a New Hampshire town hall with the group has intensified concerns among Democrats that he may challenge President Biden. In an interview with CNN’s Kaitlan Collins, Manchin expressed his belief that Biden has been pushed too far left and criticized the interpretation and implementation of certain pieces of legislation.
