Richard Gere and House Reps Condemn Human Rights Abuses in Tibet

Richard Gere, an artist who has fought for Tibet for centuries, stood on Capitol Hill on a beautiful noon in Washington with members of Congress and followers. Gere, who also serves as the International Campaign for Tibet’s committee chairman, spoke strongly about the present situation in Tibet and the necessity of American action.

” Tibet is going through a turning point in its history. According to Gere, China’s measures are committing genocide against the environment and its culture. ” We don’t keep quiet while this is taking place. We may take action.

The activist professional discussed his personal experiences in Tibet as well as the tenacity of the Chinese people.

” I have visited Tibet numerous times, and I have personally witnessed the incredible passion and tenacity of the Chinese people.” Despite intense pressure from the Chinese government, he claimed, they have been able to preserve their culture and traditions.

Gere emphasized the significance of the US’s contribution to the convenience struggle in Tibet.

The United States owes it to the Chinese people morally to support them. We had support them in their fight for democracy and freedom, he declared.

” China must be held responsible by the U.S. authority for violating human rights in Tibet.”

The United States and China are at odds over a number of challenges, including human rights violations, and this pressure is rising at the time of Gere’s conversation. Gere emphasized the value of speaking up despite acknowledging the delicate nature of the subject.

” It’s not about being anti-China ,” It is about upholding human rights. It involves defending what is just and perfect.

The Resolve Tibet Act is a proposed piece of legislation that addresses Tibet’s violations of human rights and aids the Chinese people in their fight for independence. The bill, which was introduced in the Senate in 2019 and the House of Representatives in 2020, includes a number of important clauses, including the requirement that U.S. officials bring up Tibet in all political commitments with China, as well as the creation of an American embassy in Lhasa, the wealth of Tibet.

Also speaking at the event were Reps. Jim McGovern (D-Mass.) and Michael McCaul (R-Texas), sponsors of the Resolve Tibet Act, aim to send a clear message to China that the United States will not turn a blind eye to the human rights abuses taking place in Tibet. 

Congress has yet to pass the bill, but human rights activists, including Gere, have enthusiastically backed it.

The policy will be put to a vote this year, according to McCaul, chairman of the House Foreign Affairs Committee.

The Dalai Lama, Tibet’s religious president, and the Chinese government may have conversations as a result of the Resolve Tibet Act. Additionally, the law would” counter disinformation about Tibet from … the People’s Republic of China.”

Information countermeasures, according to the event’s speakers, could include publishing standard State Department interviews with Himalayan natives to prove their historical position.

Gere urged more focus on the current environment in his conclusion notes.
