Ricky Martin files $30 million lawsuit against nephew over harassment allegations

Singer Ricky Martin filed a lawsuit against his nephew, Dennis Yadiel Sanchez Martin, in a Puerto Rican court on Wednesday for $30 million in damages.

This comes less than two months after Sanchez dropped his own harassment suit against the singer, which alleged the two had engaged in a romantic relationship. Now, Martin claims in his lawsuit that the allegations cost him $10 million in financial damages in lost contracts and projects and $20 million in damages to his reputation.

“Sanchez alleged falsely that he had had a romantic relationship with [Ricky] for seven months and that it had ended two months earlier,” the filing reportedly reads. “He further claimed that [Ricky] did not accept that the alleged relationship ended and that he called him frequently. Nothing [could be] further from the truth.”

Martin alleges that Sanchez would send him more than 10 messages a day on WhatsApp and Instagram, at times insisting that the singer follow him on Instagram or take his children to the movies. Martin would reject both requests. Sanchez would go on to post Martin’s personal number on Instagram, sparking several unwanted phone calls to the singer, which resulted in him changing his number.

Eventually, Sanchez filed a restraining order against Martin following allegations of a sexual relationship between the two but ultimately removed the order.
