Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has withdrawn from the 2024 presidential race and has thrown his support behind former President Donald Trump.
On Sunday, DeSantis (R-Fla.) suspended his campaign and endorsed the 45th president, to which Trump responded that he was “very honored.”
“I am extremely honored to have his endorsement,” Trump told Fox News Digital. “I am excited to collaborate with him to defeat Joe Biden, who is the most corrupt and worst president in our country’s history.”
DeSantis announced his withdrawal from the race through a video on X (Twitter) on Sunday afternoon.
“It is evident to me that a majority of Republican primary voters want to give Donald Trump another opportunity. They witnessed his presidency being hindered by relentless opposition, and they observe Democrats still using lawfare to attack him,” DeSantis said on Sunday. “While I have had disagreements with Donald Trump, such as on the handling of the coronavirus pandemic and his support for [Dr.] Anthony Fauci, Trump is a better choice compared to the current incumbent, Joe Biden. That is crystal clear.”
He further expressed his endorsement since “we cannot revert to the old Republican establishment of the past – a rehashed version of corporate interests – that Nikki Haley represents.”
On January 15th, Trump emerged victorious in the Iowa caucuses, solidifying his position as the front-runner.
Trump is leading presidential candidate Nikki Haley (R-S.C.) in New Hampshire by a significant margin.

How might DeSantis’s endorsement of Trump impact the dynamics within the Republican party and the outcome of the 2024 election
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has decided to withdraw from the 2024 presidential race and has instead thrown his support behind former President Donald Trump. This move comes as a surprise to many, as DeSantis had been considered a frontrunner in the race.
On Sunday, DeSantis, a Republican from Florida, suspended his campaign and endorsed Trump as the candidate he believes can defeat Joe Biden in the upcoming election. Trump responded to the endorsement by stating that he was “very honored” to have DeSantis’s support.
In an interview with Fox News Digital, Trump expressed his gratitude for the endorsement, stating, “I am extremely honored to have his endorsement… I am excited to collaborate with him to defeat Joe Biden, who is the most corrupt and worst president in our country’s history.” This statement highlights the shared goal of both Trump and DeSantis to remove Biden from office.
DeSantis made his decision to withdraw from the race known through a video posted on Twitter on Sunday afternoon. In the video, he explained his reasoning behind the endorsement, saying, “It is evident to me that a majority of Republican primary voters want to give Donald Trump another opportunity. They witnessed his presidency being hindered by relentless opposition, and they observe Democrats still using lawfare to attack him.”
While DeSantis acknowledged that he has had disagreements with Trump in the past, specifically regarding the handling of the coronavirus pandemic and Trump’s support of Dr. Anthony Fauci, he still believes that Trump is a better choice compared to the current incumbent, Joe Biden.
Furthermore, DeSantis expressed his endorsement of Trump based on his desire to steer away from the “old Republican establishment of the past.” He believes that a return to corporate interests, as represented by Nikki Haley, is not the way forward for the Republican party.
This surprising move by DeSantis has shaken up the Republican primary race, with many speculating on the impact it will have on the remaining candidates. With his endorsement, Trump has gained a significant ally and has solidified his position as a formidable contender in the 2024 election.
As the race continues to unfold, it will be interesting to see how this endorsement affects the dynamics within the Republican party and how it may shape the outcome of the upcoming election.
