Ron DeSantis aims to slash DC federal agencies’ size by 50%.
Gov. Ron DeSantis Aims to Slash Bureaucracy and Boost Accountability
Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) is on a mission to shake up the federal government and reduce the burden of bureaucracy. In a recent interview on CNBC’s Last Call, the Florida governor and Republican presidential candidate expressed his determination to cut the “footprint of all agencies in D.C. by 50%”.
“We’re gonna take all the executive orders and the regulations that Biden has done and we’re going to rip them out. We’re going to let the economy function again. Our goal is going to be to reduce the footprint of all agencies in D.C. by 50%,” DeSantis declared.
DeSantis believes that excessive regulations imposed by administrative agencies have hindered economic growth. He vows to dismantle President Joe Biden’s executive orders and regulations if elected president, emphasizing the need for a fresh start.
Reviving Accountability and Empowering the People
DeSantis highlights the accountability problem caused by federal agencies carrying out regulations instead of Congress. He argues that decisions made by “nameless, faceless bureaucrats” undermine constitutional government and deprive the people of their power to hold elected representatives accountable.
“These are being done by nameless, faceless bureaucrats. They are not being done by our elected representatives, and that creates a problem with constitutional government because if you do something — if you’re in Congress and vote for something people don’t like, your constituents can hold you accountable. Congress has given so much power to the bureaucracy, and it exercises this power over us,” DeSantis explained.
DeSantis believes that reducing the size and influence of agencies will restore power to the people and promote self-government. He aims to give small and medium-sized businesses relief from the regulatory burden that often favors larger, more established companies.
Currently, DeSantis is in second place in the Republican primary, trailing only former President Donald Trump. As he prepares for the first GOP presidential debate in Milwaukee, DeSantis remains focused on his mission to reshape the federal government and champion accountability.
