Roseanne Barr: “I Cannot Let A**Holes Win”
Roseanne Barr finally has the opportunity to tell her story in the best possible venue.
The stand-up stage.
That’s where Barr first introduced her “Domestic Goddess” routine is a humorous riff on blue collar moms struggling to pay their bills and parenthood. Her stand-up caught the attention of “The Tonight Show,” And her 1985 appearance Johnny Carson was the inspiration for one of the most important sitcoms of late 20th-century television.
“Roseanne.”
We all know what happened to Barr’s series when he relaunched it in 2018. We all know what happened when Barr rebooted the series in 2018. One, single racistally offensive Tweet Cancelled “Roseanne” And the comic herself.
Fox Nation is now able to bring Barr back.
“Roseanne Barr: Cancel This!” Let the sitcom legend share her story and the wisecracks that made her an idiosyncratic star. The special, which will debut on streaming site Streaming, is a one-hour long. It was recorded at Houston’s Cullen Theater.
The teaser video provided by Hollywood in Toto shows Barr discussing the controversy and her deeply personal reactions to it. She says ABC’s decision to continue the Conner family saga, while killing off her character, insulted the show’s legion of fans.
She’s right, of course. It also stigmatized a performer, who was instrumental in creating opportunities for women in Hollywood to create shows on their own terms.
Barr’s “Roseanne” She was not without her struggles in her years, but she made the most of her creativity and clout to tell her stories. While women may consider this a given today, it was not common in the 1980s.
The teaser focuses on Barr’s meditations on her Cancel Culture fight, and she sounds ready to start punching back.

She also shares a brilliant idea that could have moved the conversation on race forward rather than silencing her voice or career in one sweep.
Why not have one (or more) of Barr’s critics appear on the show, in character, and have a fictional exchange inspired by TweetGate?
“We could’ve had a teachable moment that they’re all talking about … I could’ve had 15 times the ratings and I could’ve learned something on behalf and shown something to America, which I always wanted to do that very thing anyway. Bringing people together and learn about each other, right?”
Barr is a star because of this instinct. It’s pragmatic and a little bit populist. This episode might be even better than any others. “The Conners.”
Before firing her, the ABC suits rejected the idea.
Now, Barr says she couldn’t stay on the sidelines without sharing her take on the cancellation.
“And that’s why I came back, even though I was like, why would you want to do that after what they did? But I came back because I just -– something’s wrong with me or something. I just –- something’s in me. I just cannot let ***holes win. I’m not. I’m not going to.”
It’s worth noting the crowd cheered every pugnacious line. That’s fine – any time Barr returns to the stage she’ll attract her hardcore fan base.
Barr’s criticisms are not enough for the special. It should remind us all why Barr is so important and how her unique voice helped America take off 30-plus decades ago.
Hollywood silenced Barr without a doubt. The comic legend’s crime, a terrible, awful Tweet, pales compared to what other stars have done and faced few if any, consequences.
Think Alec Baldwin, Bette Midler, Jimmy Kimmel Ezra Miller and I for the short list.
Barr deserves a chance at a comeback, if she wants one.
