Roseanne Barr and Bill Mitchell clash on 2024 GOP nomination.
Conservative Comedian Roseanne Barr Engages in Heated Debate with Bill Mitchell
It all started when Roseanne Barr, the renowned conservative comedian, found herself in a fiery back-and-forth with Bill Mitchell, a staunch supporter of Governor Ron DeSantis’s (R-FL) potential presidential run. The topic of contention? None other than former President Donald Trump’s chances of winning the 2024 Republican primary.
Mitchell, the host of the popular YourVoice America podcast, extended an invitation to Barr for a live debate after she responded to several of his social media posts criticizing Trump. However, Barr swiftly declined, dismissing Mitchell as a “no-name” and asserting that engaging in a debate with him would only serve to boost his visibility.
The Feud Unfolds
The feud between Barr and Mitchell ignited when Barr replied to one of Mitchell’s social media posts, questioning whether destroying evidence while under a subpoena was a crime. Barr’s response? It’s not “if you’re a Clinton.” This sparked a series of exchanges, with Mitchell condemning Trump for his delayed response to the violence that unfolded during the January 6, 2021, Capitol protest, and Barr firing back by highlighting the delayed response of Democratic lawmakers to the violence during the Black Lives Matter protests in the summer of 2020.
As the feud escalated, Mitchell playfully remarked that Barr “used to be famous,” reminding her that her original show was canceled back in 1997. Barr, never one to back down, retorted by mentioning the reboot of her show in 2018, which garnered an impressive 24 million viewers before its subsequent cancellation after just one season.
Amidst the banter, Mitchell jokingly accused Barr of “chickening out” by declining his offer for a live debate, expressing his lack of surprise at her decision.
A Controversial Past
Barr’s 2018 reboot faced cancellation after she made a controversial social media post mocking former Obama adviser Valerie Jarrett. In her post, Barr equated Jarrett to a combination of the “Muslim brotherhood & planet of the apes.” ABC swiftly condemned her comment, deeming it “abhorrent, repugnant, and inconsistent with our values.”
Reflecting on the aftermath, Barr revealed in an interview with the Megyn Kelly Show that she felt as though the network had attempted to destroy her character, even going so far as to suggest that they wanted her to take her own life.
The Battle for the 2024 Nomination
While the debate between Barr and Mitchell rages on, conservatives across the nation find themselves divided over who should secure the 2024 presidential nomination. The frontrunners, at present, are Trump and DeSantis, with Trump enjoying a significant lead over DeSantis in the latest Marquette Law School poll. Nearly half of Republicans surveyed expressed their unwavering support for Trump as the Republican nominee, while DeSantis continues to lose ground.
As the political landscape evolves, one thing remains certain: the clash of opinions and the pursuit of power will continue to captivate and divide us.
