Rubio pushes to stop the ‘stupid practice’ of changing our clocks

Sen.‍ Marco Rubio Pushes for Permanent Daylight Saving Time

Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) is once again leading the charge to ⁣make daylight saving time permanent, just‌ in time for this Sunday’s time‍ change.

“We’re ‘springing⁣ forward’ but should⁣ have ‌never ’fallen back.’ My⁤ Sunshine Protection Act would end⁢ this stupid practice of changing our ‌clocks ‌back ⁤and forth,”

In‌ 2022, Rubio’s bill successfully passed the Senate but⁢ was halted⁣ in the House. Last year, it was reintroduced ⁢as the Sunshine ‍Protection Act of 2023.

Rubio confidently states that the idea of locking in the clock has “overwhelming bipartisan and popular support.”

Nineteen states have already passed legislation or resolutions in favor of year-round daylight saving time, and last year, nearly 30 states were considering similar measures.

Joining ‌Rubio as co-sponsors of the legislation are Sens. James Lankford (R-OK), ‌Alex Padilla (D-CA), Tommy Tuberville (R-AL), Ed Markey‌ (D-MA), Bill Hagerty (R-TN), Tina Smith (D-MN), Rick Scott (R-FL), Cindy ⁤Hyde-Smith ⁢(R-MS), Rand Paul ‌(R-KY), Ron ⁢Wyden (D-OR), and Martin Heinrich (D-NM).

The legislation aims to repeal Section 3 of the Uniform⁤ Time Act of 1966, which currently mandates the use of daylight saving time in ‌the country.

Daylight saving time⁤ begins on Sunday, March 10, when ‌clocks are pushed forward an hour at 2 a.m., resulting in one‌ less hour of sleep. On November‌ 3, daylight saving time is set to end, giving⁤ us an extra hour as ‌we “fall back.”
