Rudy Giuliani confesses to spreading ‘false’ claims about Georgia election workers.
Rudy Giuliani Admits to Making False Statements in Defamation Lawsuit
In a recent court filing, Rudy Giuliani, the former New York City mayor, has admitted to making ”false” statements about Georgia poll workers during the 2020 election. He no longer disputes the factual allegations made against him in their defamation lawsuit.
While Giuliani maintains that his statements are “constitutionally protected,” he acknowledges that they carry a defamatory meaning for the purpose of this litigation.
Atlanta Poll Workers Seek Justice
Two Atlanta poll workers, Ruby Freeman and Shaye Moss, are seeking “severe” sanctions and a victory in their defamation case against Giuliani. They claim that he failed to produce communications related to former President Donald Trump’s election fraud claims.
Freeman and Moss have asked the court to rule in their favor due to Giuliani’s failure to provide an exchange between himself and Trump adviser Boris Epshteyn.
These election workers have faced relentless attacks since 2020, when Giuliani and Trump falsely cited them to support their debunked claims of election fraud. They are seeking damages for the severe emotional distress caused by Giuliani’s actions, which they believe put them in danger.
Legal Troubles for Giuliani
Giuliani is currently facing multiple legal inquiries. He has been interviewed by the Fulton County special grand jury as part of an investigation into Trump’s attempts to overturn the 2020 general election in Georgia. Indictments in the case could be issued between July 31 and Aug. 18.
As a strong ally of Trump, Giuliani played a significant role in promoting the false narrative that the election was stolen from the former president. Georgia, a battleground state, was at the center of the controversy, with the Atlanta metropolitan area playing a crucial role in Biden’s victory.
