Appeals court orders Rudy Giuliani to be disbarred in DC

Former New York City mayor and federal prosecutor Rudy Giuliani, who represented former President Donald Trump in his plan to overturn the results of the 2020 election, has been disbarred in the District of Columbia.

Giuliani’s law license in the District had been suspended since the summer 2021, but a one-page decision from the District of Columbia Court of Appeals ordered him to be disbarred. This comes months after he was disbarred in New York state.

When he was disbarred in New York, the appeals court in July said there was “uncontroverted evidence” that he spread “demonstrably false and misleading statements” to courts, lawmakers, and voters throughout his efforts to overturn the election results.

In June, the District of Columbia Bar’s Board on Professional Responsibility recommended he be disbarred, saying Giuliani “proffered no facts to support the claims he made and his opinion that election impropriety occurred does not meet the requirements for filing a lawsuit.”

Since his involvement with Trump’s plan to overturn the results of the 2020 election, Giuliani has found himself in a mountain of legal trouble. He has been ordered to pay $148 million to two election workers in Georgia after a federal judge found him liable for defamation

He has also been indicted in Arizona and Georgia for his role in the alleged plot to overturn the 2020 election. He pleaded not guilty in both states.
