Rudy Giuliani testified for eight hours in Trump’s special counsel election inquiry, per report.
Special Counsel Interviews Rudy Giuliani for Eight Hours
Special counsel Jack Smith recently conducted an extensive eight-hour interview with Rudy Giuliani, delving into Giuliani’s alleged involvement in former President Donald Trump’s efforts to overturn the 2020 presidential election, according to reports.
During the interview, Smith specifically questioned Giuliani about his association with former Trump attorney Sidney Powell, among other crucial topics, as revealed by the Wall Street Journal.
Investigation into Trump’s Election Interference Continues
While CNN initially reported Giuliani’s interview with the special counsel last month, the recent disclosure of the interview’s duration and subject matter sheds new light on the ongoing investigation into the former president.
As a member of Trump’s legal team in late 2020, Giuliani participated in meetings where strategies were allegedly devised to challenge the election results through lawsuits, the appointment of fraudulent electors, and other questionable tactics. Despite Trump’s persistent claims, no substantial evidence of widespread voter fraud that could have impacted the election outcome has been substantiated.
Smith’s investigation encompasses not only Trump’s alleged attempts to overturn the 2020 election but also his potential involvement in the Capitol riot on January 6, 2021. Last month, Smith filed federal charges against the former president based on allegations of mishandling classified documents.
Reports indicate that Smith has also interviewed state-level officials regarding Trump’s purported plans to assemble fake elector slates from various states. In June, ABC News witnessed Nevada Republican Party Chairman Michael McDonald and Nevada Republican Party committee member Jim DeGraffenreid entering the federal courthouse where the investigation’s grand jury convenes.
Furthermore, Trump faces a separate investigation into his alleged endeavors to undermine the election results in Georgia.
Uncertainty Surrounds Potential Charges
It remains unclear when Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis will bring charges, should a grand jury decide to do so. However, reports suggest that she has instructed judges to limit in-person hearings for a two-week period in mid-August.
When approached for comment, a spokesperson for Smith declined to provide any information regarding the reported interview. The Washington Examiner also reached out to Giuliani’s spokesperson for a statement.
