Russell Crowe Said He Almost Quit ‘Gladiator’ Due To ‘Absolute Rubbish’ Script
Russell Crowe, the legendary actor, recently revealed that he almost walked off the set of his iconic movie, “Gladiator,” due to issues with the script. In a video interview with Vanity Fair, Crowe explained that while he was confident in his abilities as a leading man, he was not confident in the world that surrounded him. He went on to describe the script as “rubbish” with “strange sequences” that he feared modern audiences would not understand. Despite his reservations, “Gladiator” went on to become an Oscar-winning drama that dominated the 2001 awards season and brought in over $500 million at the global box office.
Crowe also discussed his character’s death at the end of the movie and his absence from the highly anticipated sequel. While he admitted to feeling slightly jealous, he expressed gratitude for the impact that “Gladiator” had on his career and the film industry as a whole.
In the end, it was Ridley Scott who convinced Crowe to stay on the project, assuring him that they would not commit anything to camera that he did not believe in 100%. Looking back, Crowe is happy he did not quit the project and believes that every young actor should have a “Gladiator” in their career.
