Russian Oligarch Recorded Saying Putin Is Battling Blood Cancer
A Russian oligarch close to the Kremlin was reportedly secretly recorded telling a Western businessman that Russian President Vladimir Putin is “very ill with blood cancer.”
The report comes as there has been speculation for years that Putin is battling some sort of a serious illness ranging from Parkinson’s Disease to some type of cancer.
New Lines magazine reportedly obtained audio from a Western venture capitalist who secretly recorded an oligarch close to Putin back in March saying that Putin was “very ill with blood cancer.”
“The source provided the recording to New Lines on the condition that we not publicly identify him,” the report said. “He says he betrayed a colleague’s trust out of disgust with the war in Ukraine — a disgust his secretly recorded interlocutor evidently shares.”
The oligarch reportedly said on the secret recording that Putin has “absolutely ruined Russia’s economy, Ukraine’s economy and many other economies — ruined [them] absolutely.”
“The problem is with his head,” the oligarch reportedly added. “One crazy guy can turn the world upside down.”
The publication said that it was “easily able to authenticate the oligarch’s identity and voice” and that it was not publishing the person’s name due to the likelihood that they would face serious consequences from the Russian government.
The oligarch reportedly blasted his country for using the false pretext of invading Ukraine to try to find “Nazis and fascists.”
The oligarch reportedly said that “we all hope” Putin dies from his cancer or that some other action is taken in Moscow to remove Putin from power.
The oligarch also blames Putin for killing “more than 15,000 Russian soldiers and 4,000 or 5,000 civilians in Ukraine.”
“It’s unbelievable. For what?” the oligarch continued. “He killed more people than in 10 years in the [Soviet] Afghan war.”
The Cancer Treatment Centers of America notes that there are numerous types of blood cancer, with the most common being leukemia, lymphoma, and myeloma:
- Leukemia is a blood cancer that originates in the blood and bone marrow. It occurs when the body creates too many abnormal white blood cells and interferes with the bone marrow’s ability to make red blood cells and platelets.
- Non-Hodgkin lymphoma is a blood cancer that develops in the lymphatic system from cells called lymphocytes, a type of white blood cell that helps the body fight infections.
- Hodgkin lymphoma is a blood cancer that develops in the lymphatic system from cells called lymphocytes. Hodgkin lymphoma is characterized by the presence of an abnormal lymphocyte called the Reed-Sternberg cell.
- Multiple myeloma is a blood cancer that begins in the blood’s plasma cells, a type of white blood cell made in the bone marrow. Also, learn about the stages of multiple myeloma.
Putin’s health has become a top concern for officials as there has been worry that he could do something erratic, like use nuclear weapons, in his invasion of Ukraine.
“I wish I could share more, but for now I can say it’s pretty obvious to many that something is off with Putin,” Sen. Marco Rubio (R-FL) tweeted. “He has always been a killer, but his problem now is different & significant. It would be a mistake to assume this Putin would react the same way he would have 5 years ago.”
