Ryan Redington arrives in Nome, Alaska to win Iditarod sled dog race

(Reuters) – Ryan Redington, who hails from a family of hall-of-fame mushers, reached Nome, Alaska, ahead of his rivals on Tuesday to win the grueling Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race in his 16th try.

According to race results posted on the event website, Redington completed the endurance test of nearly 1,000 miles (1,610 km) in just eight days, 21 hours, and 12:58 mins. He was accompanied by Ghost and Sven, his dogs.

“It’s been a goal of mine since a very small child, to win the Iditarod. And I can’t believe it. It finally happened,” Remington, 40 years old, said that he crossed the finish line in Nome after completing his race, Alaska Public Media reported.

Remington, whose grandfather Joe has been called the “Father of the Iditarod Trail Sled Dog Race” For his efforts in promoting and organizing the event in the late 60s, he won the trophy on his 16th attempt.

“It took a lot of work, took a lot of patience, and we failed quite a few times, you know, but we kept our head up high and stuck with the dream,” According to Alaska Public Media, Remington stated that.

Redington, whose uncle, father, and uncle are both in the Mushing Hall of Fame too, set out from Anchorage with more than 32 other mushing mushers on March 4. They raced through single digit temperatures and passed through single-digit weather. Redington will be the winner of the $500,000 race prize.
