Ryan Routh has been charged with the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump.

Judge Aileen Cannon, who oversaw and then threw out the federal classified documents case against the former president, was randomly assigned to Routh’s case, according to CNN. Previously, Routh, 58, was only being charged with two gun felonies. A judge ruled on Monday that Routh would stay in prison as he awaits his trial.

Routh was accused of staking out at the sixth hole of Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Florida, for 12 hours, allegedly waiting for Trump to get in range so he could assassinate him. Secret Service agents located and fired upon him before he could get a shot off himself.

Routh was arrested shortly after fleeing the scene.
