SAG-AFTRA members approve strike against video game industry.
SAG-AFTRA Members Vote in Favor of Potential Strike Against Video Game Companies
SAG-AFTRA members made a resounding statement on Monday, with 98% of them authorizing a potential strike against ten major video game companies. This comes as the union is already on strike against the TV and film industry, resulting in a complete shutdown of Hollywood. The last strike against gaming companies lasted nearly six months, and now the industry is once again facing the possibility of a work stoppage.
“It’s time for the video game companies to stop playing games and get serious about reaching an agreement on this contract,” said SAG-AFTRA President Fran Drescher. The union’s demands, similar to those of striking writers and actors, revolve around compensation and the use of artificial intelligence (AI).
While the vote gives the national board the authority to call a strike, it doesn’t guarantee that it will happen. However, the union’s members are determined to secure a fair deal. “Our performers deserve an agreement that video game industry.”>ensures video game acting remains a viable career,” Drescher emphasized.
On the other side, video game producers are working hard to avoid another strike. They have already reached tentative agreements on more than half of the proposals and are optimistic about finding a resolution at the bargaining table.
Both parties are set to resume negotiations on Tuesday, and the outcome will determine whether the video game industry will face a major disruption.
