San Diego County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher Resigns
San Diego County Supervisor Nathan Fletcher has announced his resignation from his supervisorial role at the end of his medical leave. His last day in office will be on May 15th. The delay will allow for the board and the public to consider who will take over his seat.
Two days before this announcement, Nathan Fletcher had resorted to out-of-state treatment for “post-traumatic stress, trauma, and alcohol abuse”. On Twitter, he said that the strain on his family and wife from his personal mistakes and false accusations has been immense, and he needs to focus solely on his health and being a good husband, father, and friend.
In his tweet, he wrote, “The strain on my wife and family over this past week has been immense and unbearable. A combination of my personal mistakes plus false accusations has created a burden that my family shouldn’t have to bear. I will be resigning from the Board of Supervisors, effective…”

He expressed gratitude to his constituents, team, and the county workers for their work and said he was proud of what they had accomplished together.
His attorney released a joint statement admitting that Nathan Fletcher had extramarital affairs. He said that the interactions were consensual and that Mr. Fletcher never had authority over her employment. A woman had accused Mr. Fletcher of sexual harassment.
Local officials showed support for Nathan Fletcher and his family but expressed concern over some of his behavior. Nora Vargas, chair of the San Diego County Board of Supervisors, said that she was deeply disturbed by the allegations and supported Nathan Fletcher’s resignation. She added that they must work to create a safe environment for all the dedicated people working throughout San Diego County and won’t accept anything less.
Supervisor Jim Desmond also expressed concern over Nathan Fletcher’s behavior.
