San Francisco 49ERS Quarterback Brock Purdy Close to Surgery Decision, Could Lead To 6-Month Recovery Plan
The saga of San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy certainly didn’t end with his elbow injury at the NFC Championship game. After his team was defeated 31-7 by the Eagles, Purdy is now pondering the next steps for his damaged wing.
Purdy was attempting to pass during the title game when he fell back and injured his ulnar collateral ligament. This was a devastating blow not only to the team, but to what had been a remarkable run by an unlikely hero.
Purdy’s rookie year was a success. He posted five consecutive wins and two playoff victories to close the season. Purdy, who was hurt, was forced to get back into action and basically hand the ball off in different formations. From there, it was essentially a no-contest, with everyone just seeming to play the clock out as the curtain fell on a promising ‘Niners season.
The former Mr. The former Mr. However, he’ll definitely receive a lot of training camp competition from the third overall pick in the draft in 2021, Trey Lance.
As the chosen heir apparent, the team would rather see Lance at the helm, but it’s been hard to argue with Purdy’s record. He is the one who guided the team to within a step of the Super Bowl. He was the one who led the team to the Super Bowl.
With a chance to take the next step forward in the NFL, Brock Purdy now has to decide what’s next for him in terms of his injury.
Purdy spoke on Monday about the surgery to repair his torn ligament. He’s nearing a decision on the surgery, according to several reports.
Purdy is likely to choose an internal brace over Tommy John surgery for the procedure. The brace repair option would keep San Francisco’s slinger out for six months. Purdy might then be able to start throwing in three more months, with a slow build-up.
Purdy could be out of work for approximately a year if he chooses to undergo more extensive reconstruction surgery (Tommy John). So, entering his second season as a pro, he’s already at a bit of a crossroads.

Purdy indicated last week that his goal is to return in time to the start of the 2023 seasons. Purdy completed 65.1 per cent of his passes for 569 yard with three touchdowns in playoff games and no interceptions. Iowa State’s player showed great poise and leadership, especially for a young player who was so lowly drafted.
Despite Brock Purdy being the first overall draft pick, both his shoulder and the QB’s future are uncertain. ‘Relevant’ You can find this story in the Bay Area right now. Regardless of whether he’s reinstated as the starter or not doesn’t matter. Having a healthy Purdy in the fold only makes the ‘Niners that much stronger contenders in 2023.
