Retail⁤ Crime ⁢and Shoplifting in San Francisco:‌ Stores Take⁢ Extreme Measures‍ to ⁣Protect‌ Frozen ⁤Food

Retail crime and shoplifting in San‌ Francisco ‍have reached‌ alarming levels,⁣ prompting ⁣stores to implement drastic security measures. In a recent tweet, images of ⁣a Walgreens⁢ location revealed that frozen food products are⁢ now ⁢locked in chained coolers, requiring staff assistance⁤ for access.

“Workers said normally shoplifters clean out all the pizza and ice cream every night. They’re usually hit ⁣20x a ⁢day,” ‌the tweet ⁤read. “The whole store is virtually locked up.”

The ‌accompanying video showcased the ⁢entire frozen food‍ section ⁣padlocked, while other ⁢items like cosmetics and‌ snacks‌ were visible behind plastic‍ barriers. ‍This ⁤situation was not unique ‍to Walgreens, as a‌ similar ‍scenario was captured in ⁤a⁤ tweet featuring‌ a San Francisco CVS.

Shoppers ⁤and employees have expressed ⁣frustration with ⁣these⁢ heightened security measures. ⁤One Safeway employee even stated⁣ their intention⁤ to quit due to the ⁣constant stress ⁤of‍ unlocking ‌and transporting products.

“It’s⁤ just too ⁣much,” ⁣said David MacDowell, the employee. “Having to ‍bring things to the⁢ front ⁤was a game changer. Every day, it’s ⁤like this.”
