Sanders mockingly offers Trump and Musk ‘deep debt of gratitude’
Senator Bernie Sanders expressed sarcastic gratitude towards President Donald Trump and entrepreneur Elon Musk for their openness regarding teh influence of the billionaire class on the U.S. goverment. In an op-ed for Fox News Digital, Sanders criticized Trump’s management for prioritizing wealthy individuals over working-class Americans. He noted that the Trump administration’s embrace of billionaires, evident from their appointments and public presence, revealed how money holds significant power in politics, countering the illusion of democratic governance.
sanders highlighted Musk’s financial support for Trump, stating that Musk’s contributions amounted to over $270 million, facilitating his rise to influence within the government. The senator expressed concern over how this wealthy elite targets essential entitlement programs like Medicaid and Social Security, framing their actions as detrimental to public welfare. Sanders argued that recent challenges with Social Security services directly resulted from this influence and condemned Musk’s characterization of Social Security as a “Ponzi scheme.” He warned that Trump’s tax reforms could disproportionately affect lower-income Americans while benefiting the wealthy.
Sanders offers Trump and Musk ‘deep debt of gratitude’ for exposing rule of ‘billionaire class’
Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-VT) sarcastically thanked President Donald Trump and Elon Musk, leader of the Department of Government Efficiency, for their alleged candor about the billionaire class “running our government.”
In an op-ed for Fox News Digital, Sanders slammed Trump and Musk, arguing the Trump administration’s policies prioritize the wealthy over the working class.
The self-described democratic socialist claimed that billionaires wielded their hand in the federal government in the background “and out of public scrutiny” — until Inauguration Day when Trump had three of the country’s wealthiest men sitting behind him. Sanders also noted how Trump tapped 13 billionaires to run federal agencies.
“In other words, the power of big money was no longer something to be kept secret,” Sanders wrote. “Trump was showing the entire world that the billionaire class was running our government. It was there for all to see.”
Sanders gave special acknowledgment to Musk, mentioning how he has used his money to campaign for Trump and gain favor with the president.
“But no one has been as transparent about that as Musk,” Sanders wrote. “He donated over $270 million to Trump’s campaign, and was rewarded by becoming the most powerful person in the government. Nothing complicated about that. You pay for what you get.”
Sanders claimed that the alleged billionaire ruling class has targeted major entitlement programs like Medicaid and Social Security.
Seniors not being able to apply for Social Security benefits over the phone, the multiple crashes of the Social Security website, and the closing of Social Security Administration offices are all a result of Musk and Trump “attacking” the entitlement program, according to the progressive senator.
WHAT IS DOGE? WHAT TO KNOW ABOUT THE DEPARTMENT OF GOVERNMENT EFFICIENCY
“Several weeks ago, Mr. Musk falsely claimed that Social Security is ‘the biggest Ponzi scheme of all time.’ Really? This is a system that has been in effect since 1935 and has never once failed to provide benefits to those who have earned them. Some Ponzi scheme!” Sanders wrote.
Sanders also suggested Trump’s tax cuts will benefit the wealthiest Americans, while arguing that important programs will be gutted and that Trump’s “American First” policies will cause the “bottom 95% of Americans” to see their taxes raised.
