New poll shows record low satisfaction with K-12 education.

Americans Overwhelmingly Dissatisfied with K-12 Education, Poll Reveals

A recent poll conducted by Gallup has shed light on the public’s dissatisfaction with the quality of K-12 education‍ in the ⁢United States. The findings indicate that a staggering 63% of individuals are not satisfied with the current state of education, while only 36% expressed satisfaction, with a mere 8% claiming to be “completely satisfied.”

Lowest Satisfaction Rate in Two Decades

Gallup, an organization that has been tracking this metric for 24 years, reports⁣ that the current satisfaction rate of 36% is tied⁤ for the lowest ever ⁣recorded, matching the figure⁣ from 2000. The primary cause of this dissatisfaction stems from a disheartening 25%⁤ of Republicans and Republican-leaning independents who reported being satisfied with the quality of K-12 education.

On the other hand, among⁢ Democrats and Democratic-leaning‌ independents, 44% expressed some level of satisfaction, but 55% still admitted to being ⁤at least⁢ “somewhat dissatisfied.”

While the 44% satisfaction rate for Democrats is a slight improvement from the 43% recorded in ‌2021, it marks a 3-point decline from the 47% in 2022. The party’s all-time low was 38% in 2000.

Factors Contributing to Declining Satisfaction

For Republicans, the 25% satisfaction rate represents an all-time low. Just a year ago, in 2020,⁢ the party registered a 49% satisfaction rate, which has significantly declined since then⁣ due to COVID-19-related school closures and controversies surrounding⁤ critical race theory and gender ideology in classrooms. The 2023 figure alone reflects a 5-point⁤ decline from⁢ the previous year’s 30% ⁤satisfaction ⁤rate.

However, amidst this dissatisfaction, there is a‌ glimmer of hope. The poll revealed that parents overwhelmingly expressed satisfaction with their child’s teachers, with‍ an impressive 73% rating them⁣ as either “excellent” or “good.” Only 20% considered their ‍children’s teachers to be “fair,” and⁣ a mere 7% rated their performance as “poor.”
