In a scathing critique on Morning Joe, Joe Scarborough likened former President Donald Trump to “fat Elvis,” accusing him of making a pitiful effort to back Russia and undermine America’s European allies.
“It’s clear that he’s so desperate to support Vladimir Putin and undermine our allies in Europe that he’s resorting to fabricating stories,” Scarborough declared. “And it’s not even a convincing lie for Trump. You can see that he’s losing his touch.”
“This is like when Elvis was so overweight that he couldn’t even throw scarfs to the audience. He just sat there, looking down and singing,” Scarborough added.
Scarborough’s comments were prompted by Trump’s recent suggestion that he would not defend a “big country” if it were attacked by Russia, claiming that the nation had not paid its bills.
“One of the presidents of a big country said, ‘If we don’t pay and we’re attacked by Russia, will you protect us?'” Trump recounted to his supporters in South Carolina. “I responded, ‘You didn’t pay. You’re delinquent?’ He said, ‘Yes, let’s say that happened.'”
Scarborough dismissed Trump’s story as a farce and a sign of his declining credibility, comparing him once again to “fat Elvis.”
“It’s a story that even a third grader would question, ‘Why is he lying to me?'” Scarborough remarked.
The host went on to express concern that Trump’s actions were paving the way for him to become an autocratic leader, ready to align with Putin’s interests.
“This is the dangerous part. When he becomes president again, he’s preparing us for him to be an autocrat, a dictator who will beckon Vladimir Putin to take control,” Scarborough warned.
