An Oklahoma school district is currently under scrutiny as it grapples with the decision of whether to terminate the employment of a drag queen who serves as an elementary school principal. The controversy surrounding John Glenn Elementary School principal Shane Murnan, known as Shantel Mandalay in drag, has caught the attention of Oklahoma State Superintendent of Public Instruction Ryan Walters.
Call for Immediate Termination
Superintendent Walters has called on the Western Heights School District to take immediate action and dismiss Principal Murnan. In a recent report, Walters expressed his concerns about having a drag queen in a leadership position within an Oklahoma school, stating that it goes against the values of the state. He emphasized the growing number of parents who voice their worries about what they perceive as left-wing indoctrination and the imposition of gender theories on their children, deeming it inappropriate.
“This individual is not fit to lead a school district,” Walters asserted. “It has to stop.”
Drag Performances and Controversial Past
Principal Murnan’s involvement in drag includes reading to children during Pride month events organized by the Metropolitan Library System. Additionally, Murnan maintains a social media presence as Shantel Mandalay. However, it is worth noting that Murnan also faced charges related to child pornography in the early 2000s. The charges were ultimately dismissed due to the inability to prove that the individuals in the images were underage.
Integrating Gender Ideology in Education
According to Superintendent Walters, the integration of gender ideology into K-12 education is part of a broader agenda pursued by the left. He believes that there is an ongoing battle for the minds of children in the classroom, with the aim of breaking down traditional family units and promoting a radical Marxist gender ideology. Walters argues that teaching young students about being “gender-fluid” and exposing them to explicit material creates a divide between children and their parents, ultimately fostering a generation of Democrat voters.
Protecting Children from the Gender Agenda
Superintendent Walters asserts that parents do not want their children exposed to the contemporary left’s gender agenda. He firmly states that there is no place for woke ideology in Oklahoma schools and vows to prevent its infiltration. Walters emphasizes the importance of education as a path to success for students, rather than a platform for pushing political ideologies.
“We will not allow it. This will stop,” Walters concludes.
