School cancels classes due to 9/11 threat.
A High School in Oregon Cancels Classes on 9/11 Anniversary Due to Bomb Threat
In a shocking turn of events, Summit High School in Bend, Oregon, made the difficult decision to cancel classes on the 22nd anniversary of the September 11, 2001 terror attacks. The school received a bomb threat, prompting administrators to take immediate action.
Parents of Summit High School students were notified via email about the closure. The email, also posted on the school’s website, explained that the decision was made after a meeting with law enforcement partners. The threat, which was posted on social media over the weekend, raised concerns about the safety of the students.
Threat Investigation and Campus Search
Law enforcement agencies are actively investigating the threat, and the school is fully cooperating with the police. The threatening post, which has since been deleted, specifically mentioned Summit High School, a destructive device, and the anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. To ensure the safety of the students, the school campus was thoroughly searched, and an additional search will be conducted in the morning with the assistance of a trained OSP canine.
As a precautionary measure, all classes and activities, including after-school practices and games, have been canceled for the day. The school is taking this threat seriously and working closely with the Oregon State Police and the FBI to determine its credibility.
While it remains unclear whether the person behind the threat is a student at Summit High School, the situation has sparked concern among parents and the community. One parent expressed her distress on Facebook, highlighting the division and violence prevalent in today’s society.
“Received a text from Bend LaPine School district tonight announcing my son’s high school is closed tomorrow. What is happening in our world? Someone posted a threat on social media referencing a threatening device and the 9/11 anniversary. It sent chills down my spine and makes me more disgusted than ever over all the violence and divisiveness that is the United States we currently live in. God help us all.”
It is a somber reminder that the students attending classes on this day were born after the tragic events of 9/11. The attacks claimed the lives of nearly 3,000 people, with planes crashing into the World Trade Center towers and the Pentagon. However, the heroic actions of the passengers on United Airlines Flight 93 prevented further devastation by bringing down the hijacked plane in rural Pennsylvania.
The safety and well-being of the students remain the top priority for Summit High School, and they are taking every necessary step to ensure a secure learning environment.
