Schumer Calls on Fox News to Stop Tucker Carlson From Airing More Jan. 6 Footage
Fox News host Tucker Carlson was asked by the U.S. Senate’s top Democrat to stop Tucker Carlson airing any additional, unreleased footage beginning Jan. 6, 2021.
“I don’t think I’ve ever seen a primetime cable news anchor manipulate his viewers the way Mr. Carlson did last night. I don’t think I’ve ever seen an anchor treat the American people and American democracy with such disdain,” Chuck Schumer, Senate Majority leader (D.N.Y.), stated on the Senate floor. “And he’s going to come back tonight with another segment. Fox News should tell him not to.”
Rupert Murdoch, Fox News Chairman and Fox Corporation Chair “must order Tucker Carlson to stop,” Schumer made a written statement.
Fox representatives did not respond when we asked for comments.
Carlson Monday aired footage A U.S. Capitol Police officer is seen walking with Jacob Chansley (a Jan. 6, defendant who was sentenced to time served in prison for pleading guilty). Another clip showed Capitol Police Officer Brian Sicknick in the Capitol Rotunda following a clash with outsiders.
President Joe Biden called it the breach “a deadly insurrection” The footage is not included. “does not show an insurrection or a riot in progress,” Carlson stated. Instead, it “shows mostly peaceful chaos.”
Carlson also said that in the crowd, a small number of people “were hooligans” Who “committed vandalism.” However, the overwhelming majority of people are not satisfied with this. “were peaceful,” He stated. Some 1,000 people have been charged with Jan. 6 crimes, including 326 with assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers or employees, and more than 100 officers reported injuries from that day.
Schumer stated that Carlson was his. “told the bold-faced lie that the Capitol attack, which we all saw with our own eyes, was somehow not an attack at all.” Carlson didn’t say this. Schumer’s office didn’t respond to my request for comment. Schumer stated that the incident was a misunderstanding. “an insult to the memory of every single person who perished in connection to the attack, especially to the memory of Brian Sicknick.” An expert in medical examination ruled Sicknick, who died the day after the breach occurred, was also natural cause of death. Although no officers were killed on January 6, several took their own lives within a few months.
Schumer condemned Kevin McCarthy, the House Speaker (R-Calif.), for giving Carlson access as well as Fox to the footage. “I strongly condemn speaker McCarthy’s actions, and fiercely oppose his decision to share this footage with Carlson,” Schumer stated. McCarthy’s office didn’t respond to an inquiry. has defended Carlson has been granted access to the video and said that it will soon be more widely available.
Carlson stated that it was a crime that the footage hadn’t been revealed previously.
“Whatever you think of Speaker Kevin McCarthy, he rectified that crime, and we’re grateful that he did,” He stated.
Carlson’s segment was also condemned by other lawmakers. “We warned Speaker McCarthy of the dangers of giving Capitol security footage to Tucker Carlson — one of America’s most extreme propagandists. Having watched his manipulative editing & narrative spinning refuel the fire that caused Jan 6, we were correct,” Rep. Yvette Clark (D-N.Y.) said.
Others supported Carlson’s segment.
“Truth is beginning to be revealed. Thank you Speaker McCarthy, Tucker Carlson and company for showing America the rest of the Jan. 6 story,” Sen. Ron Johnson (R-Wis.) said.
Additional Footage Available
Carlson stated that more footage will be available to viewers on Tuesday night.
“We have more and we’re going to show it to you tomorrow,” He stated.
This would also include an interview with the top Capitol officer. Carlson stated that the interview was confidential. “raises a lot of pretty shocking questions about the Capitol Police response to January 6.”
The Epoch Times was informed by a spokesperson from the U.S. Capitol Police that Carlson’s team had not contacted the agency prior to airing the segment.
They did not contest the assertions of the agency a report This is a description of a memo in which U.S. Capitol Police chief Tom Manger stated that Carlson’s program was “filled with offensive and misleading conclusions about the January 6 attack.”
“The program conveniently cherry-picked from the calmer moments of our 41,000 hours of video. The commentary fails to provide context about the chaos and violence that happened before or during these less tense moments,” Manger was quoted saying.
A copy of the memo was not shared by the agency.
“We cannot say much publicly because of the political nature of this whole thing,” The spokesperson stated.
