Schumer proposes bipartisan bill to declassify UFO files.
New Legislation Aims to Disclose Information on Unidentified Aerial Phenomena
A new legislation is gaining bipartisan support as whistleblower claims of governmental agencies withholding critical information on unidentified aerial phenomena (UAP) have sparked public interest. Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.) plans to introduce this legislation as an amendment to the defense policy bill, with Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.) backing the idea. House support for the legislation also seems likely. According to The New York Times, the proposed commission will have the authority to compel government agencies to declassify undisclosed information on extraterrestrials or unidentified phenomena.
The Senate measure, led by Sen. Schumer, sets a 300-day deadline for government agencies to declassify any related information. The results will then be presented to a 9-member review board. These board members will be selected by President Joe Biden and approved by the Senate.
The aim of the nine members of the review board, according to Senate staff members, will be to push for disclosure while protecting sensitive intelligence information.
On Wednesday, Rep. Tim Burchett (R-Tenn.) introduced a narrower measure that requires the Secretary of Defense to declassify any Department of Defense documents or records on publicly known unidentified aerial phenomena. The Defense Secretary has 180 days to do so from the enactment of the Act.
In a recent interview, Mr. Burchett stated that he has been shown footage that has not been released to the public. When asked if he has seen compelling evidence of extraterrestrial activity, he replied, “One hundred percent. No question.”
Regarding an upcoming House hearing on the matter, Mr. Burchett expressed doubt that any Pentagon official would provide meaningful information. He criticized the Department of Defense as a ”huge bureaucracy” that only seeks to justify its existence.
Sen. Marco Rubio (R-Fla.), another advocate for transparency on the U.S. government’s involvement with extraterrestrial phenomena, recently revealed that he had been approached by intelligence whistleblowers with ”high clearances” who claimed to have firsthand knowledge of UAP programs. Mr. Rubio stated that they are working to gather as much information as possible, but many of these whistleblowers fear for their jobs and personal safety.
A former Department of Defense (DOD) intelligence officer, David Grusch, recently went public with whistleblower claims of covert non-human-origin craft-retrieval programs performed by the DOD.
