Scientists: Hawaii’s Kilauea not erupting, reversing warning
HONOLULU (AP) — Hawaii’s second-largest volcano is not erupting, scientists said in an update to a previous warning.
In a statement, late Saturday, the U.S. Geological Survey stated that there is seismic activity under Kilauea’s summit “has returned to background levels, ground deformation has stabilized, and no lava has been observed at the surface.”
The statement warned “another intrusion or resumption may occur in the near future with little or no warning.”
The agency stated previously that a shallow earthquake was a sign of trouble “resumption of eruptive activity at Kilauea summit is likely imminent.”
Scientists have confirmed Tuesday that After 61 days, lava had stopped flowing Volcanic activity.
Kilauea is one of the most active volcanoes on Earth. It erupted in September 2021 through December 2018. More than 700 homes were destroyed by the 2018 Kilauea eruption.
