Scott Jennings contends Biden pardon makes ‘strongest’ case for elites – Washington Examiner
Scott Jennings, a conservative commentator from CNN, critiqued President Joe Biden’s recent decision to pardon his son, hunter Biden, arguing that it represents a significant failure for the Democratic Party. Jennings highlighted that the pardon, which covers all offenses Hunter Biden may have committed over an 11-year period, contradicts prior expectations regarding how presidential powers would be utilized, especially in comparison to predictions about then-President-elect Donald Trump. He described the pardon as the largest-scale one since Gerald Ford pardoned Richard Nixon in 1974, taking place shortly before Biden’s departure from the White House.
CNN’s Scott Jennings contends Biden pardon makes ‘strongest’ case for elites
Conservative CNN commentator Scott Jennings argued that the recent pardon by President Joe Biden is “a complete and utter failure” by the Democratic Party and that it is the inverse of what many claimed President-elect Donald Trump would use his power for.
The president pardoned his son, Hunter Biden, on all “offenses against the United States which he has committed or may have committed or taken part in” over an 11-year period, giving the largest-scale pardon since then-President Gerald Ford’s pardon of former President Richard Nixon in 1974. With less than two months before Biden leaves the White House, Jennings contended that the pardon makes “the strongest possible case” that President-elect Donald Trump was right in saying that the nation’s government and justice system is “of, by, and for the elites.”
“He ran to banish Trumpism from our political system in this country, and he has left it politically, and now institutionally, the strongest possible political force in this country,” Jennings said. “It is a complete and utter failure by the head of the Democratic Party and the president of the United States. Never again do I want to hear, ‘Oh, Donald Trump‘s a liar, you can‘t believe anything he says, Donald Trump will abuse his power, Donald Trump will only use the system to benefit himself and his family,’ and so on and so forth. Never again.”
Jennings also argued that the pardon is “the biggest cover-up of who knows what crimes” because it dates back 11 years from Sunday. The commentator claimed that the president “knows just about” when his son’s wrongdoings started, which he said goes back to when Biden was vice president under former President Barack Obama.
“He’s leaving office in complete and total disgrace,” Jennings said. “He is a liar, and there is no other way to spin this today. This has nothing to do with Trump, and everything to do with the character of Joe Biden.”
Last week, Jennings announced he would join the Los Angeles Times editorial board, five years after he joined the paper as a contributing columnist. In 2017, the former aide to former President George W. Bush joined CNN as a contributor.
Gov. Jared Polis (D-CO) said he understood why the president, as a father, chose to pardon his son. However, he warned that the pardon sets “a bad precedent” that future presidents could exploit.
Trump has also rebuked his former opponent for the pardon, deeming it “an abuse and miscarriage of Justice!”
