SCOTUS Skeptical of Biden Debt Forgiveness Plan

Oral arguments are now complete and several news outlets report that conservative Justices seem skeptical about President Biden’s ability offer student loan forgiveness. Washington Post reports that the conservatives were advocating fairness while the liberals were arguing for standing. Let’s start with the fairness question: “Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. presented a hypothetical scenario involving two high school graduates — one who takes out a loan to attend college and the other who gets a loan to start a lawn care business.”

Justice Gorsuch also raised the fairness and forgiveness of debt, declaring that “Half a trillion dollars is being diverted to one group of favored persons over others.”
