Sean Penn Botches Theology: Evangelical Trump Leaders Should ‘Be Impeached By The Vatican’

Actor Sean Penn seems confused about which branch of Christianity the Vatican governs. In a tweet last Friday, the notable left-wing activist rebuked Evangelical Trump supporters and called upon the Pope to “impeach” them; Penn also misspelled the word Satan, writing Satin – a weave of fabric – instead.

“Evangelical leaders should themselves be impeached by the Vatican if they themselves don’t follow Nikki Haley’s lead & clearly state they should not have followed Satin [sic] into the bowels of hell. But, perhaps they are too busy at sex parties,” Penn stated.

Since Evangelicals are Protestant Christians of varying denominations, the Vatican has absolutely no authority to “impeach” them, with “excommunication” being the proper terminology. Even some of Penn’s most ardent fans were left scratching their heads over his poor phrasing.

“Respect, Sean, but evangelicals do not work under the Pope, they are kind of on their own. They are not even Catholic,” said one user.

“How does one make it to adulthood with this level of religious ignorance,” said another user.

“1. What’s wrong with Satin, besides its lack of breathability? 2. You are aware Rome/Vatican isn’t the same thing as Evangelical, right? Celebrities and their wisdom. Oy,” said another.

Regarding Haley, Penn was referring to comments she made to Politico last week wherein she denounced President Donald Trump’s treatment of former Vice President Mike Pence.

“I’m watching the television the morning of the 6th and I see Don Junior get up there,” she said. “And then I hear the president get up there and go off on Pence. I literally was so triggered, I had to turn it off. I mean, Jon [Lerner] texted me something and I said, ‘I can’t. I can’t watch it. I can’t watch it,’ because I felt the same thing. Somebody is going to hear that, and bad things will happen.”

“When I tell you I’m angry, it’s an understatement,” Haley added. “Mike has been nothing but loyal to that man. He’s been nothing but a good friend of that man. … I am so disappointed in the fact that [despite] the loyalty and friendship he had with Mike Pence, that he would do that to him. Like, I’m disgusted by it.”

Penn made headlines earlier this month when the Los Angeles Times released an angry email he wrote to staffers who complained about poor working conditions at a mass vaccination center at L.A.’s Dodger Stadium supported by Penn’s CORE (Community Organized Relief Effort) nonprofit.

“Those comments, which claimed to be revealing of inaccuracies about our vaccine effort at Dodger Stadium in a news report, were in themselves not only a propagation of deeper inaccuracies but also indulged the personal opinions of those alleged CORE staffers in a way that violates everything that keeps us whole,” Penn wrote.

“It’s called quitting. Quit for CORE. Quit for your colleagues who won’t quit. Quit for your fellow human beings who deeply recognize that this is a moment in time. A moment of service that we must all embody sometimes to the point of collapse. That’s my job. And that’s your job,” Penn added.
