Concern arose when Charlotte failed to return after fifteen minutes. Her worried parents and fellow campers immediately initiated a search. At 6:45 p.m., they discovered her abandoned bike on the loop, prompting her mother to contact 911. State police arrived promptly, but the situation was described by Hochul as ”every parent’s worst nightmare.”

New York State Police have since issued an Amber Alert, classifying Sena’s disappearance as a child abduction. The alert states that the child was taken under circumstances indicating imminent danger.
Lieutenant Colonel Richard Mazzone informed reporters that an extensive search of the park had been conducted, leading authorities to believe that the possibility of an abduction was quite likely.
