Seattle Mariners’ Jarred Kelenic tearfully discloses foot fracture from cooler kick.
Seattle Mariners Outfielder Jarred Kelenic Lets Emotions Get the Best of Him, Fractures Foot
Seattle Mariners outfielder Jarred Kelenic expressed deep regret and took full responsibility after fracturing his left foot in a moment of frustration during Wednesday’s game against the Minnesota Twins. Kelenic admitted that he allowed his emotions to overpower him, resulting in a costly injury.
“I feel terrible, especially for the guys,” Kelenic tearfully told reporters. “I just let the emotions get the best of me, and I just let them down. I take full responsibility for it. It’s on me.”
Unfortunately, Kelenic’s injury prevented him from participating in Thursday’s game, leaving the team at a disadvantage as they strive for a playoff spot. The young outfielder expressed his disappointment in not being able to contribute to the team’s success.
“I love to win,” Kelenic said. “That’s the hardest part, that now I can’t be out there to help the guys, and that’s my fault.”
Kelenic’s manager, Scott Servais, confirmed that X-rays were taken on Wednesday night and a scan was done the following morning to assess the extent of the injury.
The 24-year-old, who made his MLB debut in 2021, suffered the fracture after striking out in the ninth inning against the Twins and venting his frustration by kicking a water cooler in the dugout.
In response to Kelenic’s absence, the Mariners called up Cade Marlowe, a promising outfield prospect from the Triple-A Tacoma Rainiers, to fill the void in Thursday’s game. This will mark the 26-year-old’s MLB debut as he steps in for Kelenic in the series finale against Minnesota.
