Second Trump rallygoer released from hospital nearly two weeks after shooting

The second man who was critically injured during the attempted assassination of former President Donald Trump has been released from the hospital. 

James Copenhaver, 74, was discharged from Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh on Friday, according to a spokesperson for Allegheny Health Network.

Copenhaver sustained “life-altering injuries” when a gunman opened fire at Trump’s campaign rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13, according to a statement released by his family three days after the shooting.

“The Copenhaver family would like to thank you for your continued thoughts, prayers, and support as Jim and his family recover from this horrible, senseless, and unnecessary act of violence,” the statement said.

“Jim would like to especially thank the first responders, medics, and hospital staff who have provided him with initial and continuing care. Additionally, Jim would like to express his thoughts and prayers for the other victims, their families, and President Trump,” it said.

David Dutch, the other injured rallygoer, was discharged from the hospital last Wednesday after being shot in the chest and liver.

Another attendee, 50-year-old firefighter Corey Comperatore, was killed in the shooting. 

A bullet struck Trump in the ear when the shooter, 20-year-old Thomas Matthew Crooks, opened fire, the FBI confirmed on Friday.

The House voted unanimously last week to create a bipartisan task force to investigate the assassination attempt.

The former president said Friday he plans on returning to Butler for a rally honoring Comperatore and the two injured rallygoers.
