Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders opposes providing $10 billion in aid to Israel for their war against Hamas.
The Socialist made the remarks on Monday on the Senate floor, expressing his opposition to supporting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s right-wing government.
“I do not believe we should be appropriating over $10 billion for the right-wing extremist Netanyahu government to continue its current military approach,” Sanders (I-Vt.) said in remarks Monday on the Senate floor.
Sanders has been a vocal critic of Netanyahu, stating, “What the Netanyahu government is doing is immoral, it is in violation of international law, and the United States should not be complicit in those actions.”
However, Sanders does support providing aid for defense systems like the Iron Dome to protect citizens from rocket attacks.
“But I believe that it would be irresponsible for us to provide an additional $10.1 billion in unconditional military aid that will allow the Netanyahu government to continue its current offensive military approach,” he said.
Additionally, Sanders believes that Israel’s approach to the war is “offensive to most Americans” and urges them to change their tactics.
The Vermont Senator is also known for his opposition to military spending.
Meanwhile, as hostage negotiations remain stalled, Israel has escalated its military operations in Gaza, targeting Hamas’ stronghold of Khan Younis in the southern part of the strip.
According to the Palestine health minister, nearly 16,000 people have died in Gaza, and close to 1.9 million people have been displaced. These numbers were reported by Reuters.
This comes after a terrorist attack by Hamas on October 7th, which claimed the lives of 1,200 people, according to the Israeli Foreign Ministry. Currently, 137 hostages are still being held in Gaza.

What is Senator Bernie Sanders’ stance on providing $10 billion in aid to Israel for their war against Hamas?
Multiple sources, including the United Nations and human rights organizations. The ongoing conflict between Israel and Hamas has resulted in immense suffering and destruction, and the international community has been called upon to provide humanitarian aid and support.
However, Senator Bernie Sanders has taken a controversial stance by opposing the provision of $10 billion in aid to Israel for their war against Hamas. Speaking on the Senate floor, Sanders expressed his opposition to supporting Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s right-wing government, stating, “I do not believe we should be appropriating over $10 billion for the right-wing extremist Netanyahu government to continue its current military approach.”
Sanders has been a vocal critic of Netanyahu and the Israeli government, condemning their actions as immoral and in violation of international law. He asserts that the United States should not be complicit in these actions and should not provide unconditional military aid.
However, it is important to note that Sanders does support providing aid for defense systems like the Iron Dome, which protect Israeli citizens from rocket attacks. He believes that while it is necessary to ensure the safety of Israeli civilians, providing an additional $10.1 billion in unconditional military aid would only allow the Netanyahu government to continue its offensive military approach.
Sanders also argues that Israel’s approach to the war is “offensive to most Americans” and calls for a change in tactics. He believes that the current offensive military approach has led to an alarming number of casualties and displacement in Gaza. According to the Palestine health minister, nearly 16,000 people have died in Gaza, and close to 1.9 million people have been displaced.
It is worth noting that Sanders is known for his opposition to military spending, and his stance on Israel reflects his broader views on the issue. However, his position has generated significant debate and controversy, with critics arguing that withholding aid to Israel could jeopardize the security and stability of the region.
As the conflict continues to escalate and hostage negotiations remain stalled, the situation in Gaza remains dire. The international community is faced with the challenge of balancing humanitarian concerns with political considerations.
Ultimately, the decision regarding aid to Israel rests with the policymakers, who must carefully weigh the various factors at play. It is crucial that all efforts be made to achieve a lasting and peaceful resolution to the conflict, ensuring the safety and well-being of all those affected.
