Senate Majority Whip Dick Durbin (D-Ill.) has sided with the some of his Democrat colleagues by calling to reform the filibuster.

While speaking on the Senate floor Tuesday, the Illinois lawmaker said today’s filibuster has a death grip on American democracy and that it’s time to change the Senate rules.

The Democrat senator added, it does not promote the balanced system, but rather the ability for one party to overpower another when trying to pass key legislation.

However, Durbin is singing a different tune from his stance in 2018 when the Democrats were in the minority. He previously said ending the filibuster would be the “end of the Senate” that our founders intended for us to have.
